Jetztzeit - Yvonne Georgi

Jetztzeit (present day) 3 PM and 5 PM, lobby of the State Opera Members of the ensemble of the state opera of Hannover present choreographies that were inspired by the electronic ballets of dance icon Yvonne Georgi, via video installation. In Germany she shaped modern expressive dance as we know it, together with fellow dancers Mary Wigman, Kurt Joos and others. From 1926 to 1931 Yvonne Georgi was “dance director” at the municipal theaters (Städtische Bühnen) in Hannover and between 1954 and 1970 director of the ballet at the regional theater (Landestheater) in Hannover.

The Red Shoes (1948)

Film

The Red Shoes Young ballerina Victoria seizes the great opportunity when the soloist of the ballet “The Red Shoes” leaves the ensemble. Victoria rises to stardom, falls in love with the composer of the play – young coach named Julian Craster. But their love meets with opposition and they quit the group. The film centers on the ballet “The Red Shoes” based on the fairy tale by Hans-Christian Andersen. Sir Robert Helpman choreographed the ballet, he later became a star of the Royal Ballet Company; in “The Red Shoes” he dances the role of the lover. In the tradition of the old irish “Dance Masters” (men who travelled from village to village and taught dances) this workshop will show you basic steps in “soft shoes”, in order to learn the irish group dance (Céilí). To this day Céilís are a integral part of the irish everyday life and are performed in pubs and on jamborees. With “hard shoes” you will learn to rythmically step dance to irish music, as it is known from “River Dance” and “Lord Of The Dance”. This workshop is suitable for anybody who likes to dance. You will need ballet / gymnastic shoes or thick socks with sport shoes. Irish dance is not advised for people having problems with their tendons in knees and / or ankles.
